It took me a while - into my late 20s - to understand why women loved shoes. Now I get it. They never make you feel fat. You have no qualms if you are a size up or a size down. And they can make you feel beautiful and powerful instantly.
Wedding shoes can be tricky though. You need just the right shoe - one that doesn't take away from your dress, works with its length, and most importantly allows you to be semi happy for at least 12 hours. I can't stress the importance of comfort enough because even if you give in and dance barefoot like I did around 10pm, you do so knowing you run a much higher risk of dancing right over broken glass.
My best advice is go for something classic, beautiful and comfortable. Splurge if you're a "shoe person," and since high heels run the highest price tag, I think it's best to splurge specifically if can see yourself wearing the heels again without wanting to call it a night at 7pm.
Here are my favorite picks right now.
VINCE CAMUTO 'PHOEBE HEEL'I'm a huge fan of Vince Camuto because he's one of just a few designers who nails comfort, price and style. The Phoebe Embellished T-Strap Sandal is a white heel with a little glam in either silver of white sparkles running up its t-strap; it's also on sale via Nordstrom for just $80-160.
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN FOLLIES STRASS PUMPS These are stunners and caught my eye immediately last year. I love them because they remind me of Cinderella's glass slipper, and you could easily wear them again with all different hues and styles of dresses. What I couldn't spring for is the price - they come in at $1,195 via Nordstrom.
Jimmy ChoO PEEP TOE BOOTIES Yes, the price here is steep, but god these booties are beauties and assuming no one spills red wine on you, I feel like they would become the kind of family heirloom that your future granddaughters will look at one day and say "man, grandma, you were so cool."
Sophia WEBSTER TYRA CRYSTALThese ivory satin sling-backs with crystal beads along the heel are THE BEST because they read "Wifey for Lifey" on the sole of the shoe, making them worth every penny... I think ($495)! They were also the wedding shoe of choice for supermodel Hilary Rhoda.
Jimmy Choo Gold Lame Glitter Fabric Wedge SandalsA nice option for summer weddings, and on the affordable end for Jimmy Choo, these come in at $750. Being wedges, they are automatically ten times comfier than heels. I know two different brides who wore these on their wedding day and numerous times since then.
MARCHESA SANDALS Sandals is a misnomer here, these are edgy, sexy heels and I love them a little too much. Geometric and floral cutouts accent the metallic and white Italian cowhide Marchesa design. They are also a crazy amazing 40% off ($597) on Shopbop!
KEDS FOR KATE SPADEMy aunt changed into running sneakers half way through her wedding reception. I was 8 years old and I will never forget it. If these glittery Kate Spade Keds were available back then I'm sure she would have gone for them, making the outfit and the memory even more adorable. Also, they're just $80.
UGG I DO BootsSpeaking to you winter brides here, there are those who love and those who hate UGGS. I love everything about how comfy cozy they are so I fully endorse this I Do Boot with a Swarovski crystal button ($225).
