Casey is the kind of bride who gives you goosebumps when you listen to her talk about her wedding, which she hosted at a picturesque private home in Newport, Rhode Island. When it came to her bridal style, she jokes that she isn't good at "girl things," but she actually knew exactly what she was doing because she wanted to look and feel like her, not like someone stepping into a role. This made her the most beautiful bride possible.
Bridal Style Natural and relaxed. I’ve never been one of those girls who’s had their wedding planned since they were little and I’ve never really been good at “dressing up” so I tried to keep my style as natural and “me” as possible.
Dress By My dress was made by Firas Yousif on Newbury Street in Boston. Firas was amazing to work with. He made me feel comfortable and kept me laughing at every visit. Every dress I tried on at other bridal shops made me feel too princess-y and out of place. Firas worked with me on a style that complimented me and the natural look I was going for. The best part was he created two different looks; one for the church and one for the reception. For the church, he created a custom lace 3/4 sleeve top and custom veil that had matching lace along the trim. After the ceremony, for the reception, I took off the top and added a custom lace belt. I was completely in love with my dress even though I danced and sweat right out of that thing, breaking all the bustles, because the dance floor was absolutely epic.
Shoes by Jimmy Choo. My first pair of designer shoes and I loved them! (Sorry husband!) I bought them on sale at Neiman Marcus and they were super comfortable. Although, it was the heel of those things that broke right through my bustle and one of my bridesmaids had to cut me out of it. Whoops!
Accessories By I kept my accessories to a minimum because I didn’t want to take away from the dress. My mom let me borrow her sapphire ring (which she got from my dad when my oldest brother was born) and my dad gave me a sapphire bracelet to match the day of the wedding. I also had a piece of my grandmother's dress sewed onto the inside of mine. It felt so special having parts of people I loved with me the entire day.
Health Secrets Besides keeping up with regular workouts, nothing crazy: 3 days of weights and 2 days of cardio on a good week. I tried to cut off/limit my sugar intake leading up to the wedding. It was actually amazing how much my cravings almost stopped completely. Also, starting off my day with hot water and lemon was something I really believed helped with getting rid of toxins and kick starting my metabolism. Lastly, I made sure I took magnesium every day. It’s a natural supplement, and great for almost everything in the body especially regulating hormones, metabolism, calming stress/anxiety, and maintaining sleep.
Beauty Secrets I wish I did! Let me know if you hear anything good! I did put a lot of effort into picking what felt like the right fits for me from everything to my dress to hair and make-up.
Hair By Kristen Moshiek and I absolutely loved her! She did my hair for the rehearsal and the wedding and she is amazing.
Makeup By Jessica D’Amore, this was an important part for me because I look crazy with too much makeup (which my husband isn’t afraid to remind me). I had about 5 makeup trials and Jessica was the only one who understood what I meant by “natural”. My bridesmaids and I were so happy with our makeup.
Greatest moments of the night The entire day was by far the best day of my life. I’ve never felt so much love and energy in one place; it’s a type of happiness that I can’t put into words. Being on the alter with my husband for the entire ceremony was magical. One of my favorite parts of the night was when my mom surprised Bryan and I with a choreographed dance from the entire wedding party. It was absolutely hilarious and we were definitely not expecting it. Another favorite moment was the firework show my dad was so adamant about doing. I was very hesitant when he told me about it at first but it ended up being one of our most cherished moments of the night. The band played Katy Perry’s “Firework” on repeat while the entire wedding screamed every word.
Wedding date August 26, 2016
Wedding Venue We were very fortunate to be given a friends waterfront home in Newport for our tented reception. The house was on 50 acres of land on Ocean Drive in Newport and was absolutely stunning. The same generous man gave us his 170 foot sailboat for a sunset cruise before the rehearsal dinner. The whole weekend was a once in a lifetime experience that I have a funny feeling someone from up above was watching out for us.
Advice for Brides to Be The best advice I received was to get all letters, gifts, and small day of items done well before the weekend. I had 12 bridesmaids so writing 12 letters took longer than expected and I wanted my letters to my parents, husband, and husbands parents to be as thoughtful as possible. Getting those tasks out of the way before the weekend made getting ready with my best friends so memorable and stress free. I remember dancing with my bridesmaids getting ready and just smiling to myself thinking how amazing my friends and family are and how could the day possibly get any better…and it had only just begun!
