There are so many things to take note of with Alexandra and Jeff's wedding but one of my favorites is how they made their gorgeous September Cape wedding ALL about the gorgeous September Cape views--- they were married at Chatham Bars Inn, and not only held an outdoor ceremony and reception but also constructed an observation deck so that guests could have a 360* view of the grounds and ocean. I am obsessed with their whimsical and natural flowers, not to mention this bride's amazing style!
Bridal Style Classic and Natural
Dress By Carolina Herrera, she has always been one of my favorite designers, with her classic, clean, and feminine designs. I also love the fact that she is Venezuelan because my mother is from Venezuela and my whole family on that side still lives in Caracas. So, when I heard that L'Elite was hosting a trunk show, I went for a visit with my now sister-in-law to get some inspiration. I never in my wildest dreams imagined finding 'the dress' that very day, but upon trying on the third dress, my sister-in-law, the sales associate and I were all speechless. It was game over (and I mean that in the best way!). The interactions with the store thereafter were exceptional. When I needed a last minute fix to my dress the week before the wedding, they did so free of charge and were in constant contact.
Shoes by Just after Jeff and I got engaged, I had a work-related conference in Amsterdam and we decided to make a trip out of it. While visiting Prague, one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen, we strolled down a street that is their equivalent of Fifth Avenue. I saw these gorgeous Jimmy Choo shoes while window shopping and as a way to remember our special trip, we bought my wedding shoes there. The currency exchange rate made for a great discount, too!
Accessories I wore some pieces that my mother inherited from my great grandmother. My favorite was a handmade, intricate bracelet from the fifties, which worked well with my shoes and complemented the classic simplicity of my dress.
Health Secret I tried to be active every other day, which often involved going to Pure Barre in Coolidge Corner, Brookline.
Beauty Secret In the three weeks leading up to the wedding, I used a vitamin C serum that really made my skin radiant. I also kept my face out of the sun until the week of the wedding to get a good glow.
Hair by Erik Howard, owner of Will Charles Salon, and I have continued to use him as my hair stylist ever since. He is just fantastic. While he was very talented and very responsive to my wishes, his best characteristic was his personality. He has the perfect vibe for a bride on her wedding day: a combination of chill, enthusiastic, and to the point. Another plus was that he and my makeup artist had worked together many times, so they were a dynamic duo. They are both professional and timely, best of the best!
Makeup By Dani Wagener and I was thrilled. I was looking for a fresh faced look and she had the perfect minimal, natural touch that merely enhanced my features, rather than obscuring them. It was important to me that I looked like myself and she captured my preferences perfectly.
Greatest Moment Hands down when my super talented brother, Dan, performed Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' with our wedding band, Legit (of Night Shift). Dan had just given me and Jeff a toast, which included a song he had written for us that he sang on his acoustic guitar. It was a slow song that was very beautiful. It's hard to believe that he was able to bring the energy up so high after that, but as soon as he started singing with the band, all 250 guests were on their feet and absolutely fangirl-ing for my brother. Even the band leader was taking videos!
Wedding Venue Chatham Bars Inn - it has an incredible team. Everything from the food and drinks, to the service, to the grounds - impeccable. Working with Wedding Coordinator Kate Mann was a dream and the Executive Chef, Anthony Cole, was extremely gracious. CBI was also quick to help us out when we ran into a minor issue related to the placement of our tent just days before the wedding. CBI sent their head engineer to assist us and they were so helpful in resolving the issue.
Advice for brides to be One thing I would offer that may be a bit different is to forgo high heels on the night before your wedding or the rehearsal dinner. I wore 4" heels because they looked great and worked with my dress and I normally don't have too much trouble in heels. However, I did not anticipate how badly my feet would hurt the next day, when I had to be in heels starting at 2pm. So, while both my pairs of shoes in isolation were comfortable, I would avoid high heels two nights in a row if you can manage it. Many people have the tradition of spending the night before the wedding alone or with a friend or mom, separated from your husband-to-be. We did this and I regret it a little bit because I am just not used to sleeping alone! On the night before the wedding, when there are so many other things that could keep you awake, I would recommend keeping your bedtime rituals intact to help you have a good night sleep - including spending the night with your hubby-to-be!
