Bride/Babe: Bridgette Hynes, My Sister, Online Marketing Manager at Nantucket Island Resorts and a Stunning New Year's Eve Bride

My sister Bridgette is the oldest of five, which may be why she decided to live on Nantucket soon after graduating from college. Peace. She has built a career there that began in high fashion, working at Ralph Lauren, and evolved into hospitality, serving first as Director of Business Development and currently as Online Marketing Manager for Nantucket Island Resorts, which owns some of the best places to stay on the island, including White Elephant and Wauwinet. Her choice of a winter wedding on the island initially baffled us. No beach? No Gazebo (a favorite outdoor bar)? Four days before her wedding, the boats from the Cape even shut down due to high winds and an impending blizzard. But the day of and even the days immediately leading up to her wedding, were pure magic. It felt like we rented the entire island for our closest group of 200 friends and we celebrated New Year's Eve 2010 like no other. I will forever be a fan of winter and New Year's Eve weddings.

Dress was by Vera Wang (FW 2010 Collection). I purchased it at the Vera Wang boutique on Newbury Street in Boston; it was the only dress I even tried on- I had seen it on the cover of a magazine the day after I got engaged and knew it was the one. It was even more beautiful in person than on the magazine cover. It was a lot of dress but I was comfortable in it.

Shoes ByMy shoes were by Christian Louboutin, purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue (Boston) and were so amazing and  comfortable that I wore them all night. I have even worn them several times since my wedding.

Accessories ByI wanted accessories kept to a minimum because my gown was voluminous and it had a lot of beautiful detail like hand painted flowers- I didn't want anything to compete with it. I had a very simple hair piece (no veil) which I also purchased at the Vera Wang salon in Boston and simple pearl earrings. I did also wear a fur jacket (faux of course), found at Neiman Marcus in Boston. It was a good find because my dress was a peach color and the jacket matched it so well. I actually lent the jacket to a friend of mine for her own wedding two years later and she loved it too.

Health SecretI am always an avid exerciser so leading up to the wedding, I would hit the gym and run routinely. I volunteered a lot of my time to walking dogs at a local shelter to get more fresh air (winter bride),  some extra exercise and to clear my head with great company.

Beauty secretI drank 3 to 4 liters of water a day - a couple of those large size Smart Waters to be precise - in the month leading up to the wedding to ensure perfect skin. It worked!

Hair by Darya Afshari of Darya Salon on Nantucket did my hair- she's been doing my hair for a long time and is also a great friend of mine.

Make-up byMy make up was done by Lizzie Legg who owns an adorable little cosmetic boutique on Nantucket, Beauty by the Sea, she has known me for years and I knew she would get the right look for me.

Bridal StyleNatural, but still romantic and formal - this was a NYE black tie wedding but also on Nantucket so it was an interesting balance to strike.

Greatest moment of the night Dancing with my friends and my husband - we had an amazing band.

Wedding Venue Great Harbor Yacht Club

Words of Advice for Brides-to-beDress up! I loved having a formal wedding. A wedding is such a special event, and it was so much fun to be dressed to the nines and to have everyone else dressed up too. It just adds to the atmosphere of celebration.
